Manual therapy can describe a range of treatments including mobilisation of joints and soft tissue release. These techniques help to restore natural movements to stiff joints, improve blood flow to joints and muscles and release knots in tight muscles. Richard will explain any treatments to you before commencing and will only proceed with treatments you are happy with.
Exercise Based Rehabilitation
Unfortunately, Physiotherapists cannot wave a magic wand and fix all your pain! Some injuries and conditions require a little bit of work at the patient's end. Richard will be able to provide specific exercises that you will be able to complete at home or in our on-site rehab studio. Depending on your injury, these exercise may intend to strengthen or stretch muscles, mobilise joints or increase co-ordination and balance.
Cupping is an ancient Chinese form of treating muscle and joint stiffness and pain. Suction cups are placed on and around the affected area for up to 10 minutes. The suction increases blood flow to the area as well as helping to flush any toxins around and out of the body. This treatment is quick, painless and hugely effective for those stubborn tight, sore areas. Cupping is best known for the large, purple marks it can leave on the body - often seen on elite athletes. These marks are also painless and only last 4-6 days.
Dry needling uses Acupuncture needles to target deep, tight muscle knots. Richard will insert a needle into the belly of the affected muscle and use this needle to effectively release any muscle tightness in a fraction of the time of traditional massage.
Have a big sporting event coming up which you would like to be strapped for? We can help! Simply book online or pop in to book a time to have any joint strapped both traditionally or K-Taped. Traditional strapping helps to stabilise an otherwise unstable joint such as a previously rolled ankle or injured shoulder. K-Tape aims to improve performance by increasing blood flow to targeted muscles which may be injured, tight or weak.
Sports massage aims to decrease muscle tension and tightness by improving circulation and blood flow to and from muscles. Specific trigger points are also targeted to relax muscle tissue both before and following a big race/game/event.
